ISDS: EPP Group calls for Investment Protection 2.0

„The EPP Group welcomes the European Commission’s initiative to modernise the Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) mechanism, making it more transparent and impartial. The proposal presented today by Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom is a step in the right direction, in particular for the on-going negotiations on the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The EPP Group welcomes the proposal to support the establishment of a permanent international independent Court of Arbitration in the long term, as outlined in the EPP Group Position Paper on International Trade. The EPP Group wants a TTIP that includes a modernised, transparent and impartial ISDS mechanism which will avoid any discriminatory treatment for EU investors, in particular SMEs when they are challenged or have to challenge national or local authorities in the US.
