Statement by Daniel Caspary MEP on solar panel dispute

The spokesman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee, Daniel Caspary MEP, welcomed today’s decision by the European Commission to introduce reduced punitive tariffs against Chinese solar panels:

“By introducing lower punitive tariffs on Chinese solar panels, the EU takes a step towards China. The Commission stretches out its hand in order to avoid an all-out trade war. This is a fair offer made in a spirit of partnership”.

“Now it is up to the Chinese government to demonstrate its will to deepen the economic partnership with the EU, and take the necessary measures to prevent local producers from using dumping products to break into the European market”.

“China has to show it is willing to stick to the rules of a globalised economy”.
